Dr.Jorge Walter

Dr. Jorge Walter serves as the Vice Dean for Faculty and Research at the George Washington University School of Business, where he is also a professor in the Department of Strategic Management and Public Policy (SMPP). Dr. Walter teaches the strategic management capstone courses in the undergraduate and MBA programs, as well as Ph.D. seminars on strategic management and social networks. He is the recipient of several teaching awards, such as the Peter B. Vaill Outstanding Doctoral Educator Award, the Outstanding World Executive MBA Faculty Award, the Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Award, and the Dean’s Teaching Award.

Dr. Walter received his doctorate in strategic management from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, was a visiting researcher at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a postdoctoral researcher at the Stern School of Business at New York University. His research interests include strategy formulation and implementation processes, knowledge/technology transfer, social networks, and social capital. He has published more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Science, Personnel Psychology, and Strategic Management Journal. His latest book, “Reconceptualizing organizational control: Managing in the age of hybrid workplaces, artificial intelligence, and the gig economy,” is published by Cambridge University Press.

Dr. Walter has served as associate editor of the Journal of Management and on the editorial board of the Journal of Management Studies, and he has held elected and appointed leadership positions at both the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society. Prior to entering academia, he worked in strategic management consulting and corporate finance.
