Anthony R. Artino, Jr., PhD, is a tenured Professor and Associate Dean for Educational Research at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS). Trained as an educational psychologist, he provides institutional leadership in education research, evaluation, faculty development, and scholarly communities of practice across SMHS. In this role, he works collaboratively with education and research leaders to strengthen the rigor, impact, and responsible use of educational data in teaching, assessment, and accreditation.

Before joining GW SMHS in 2020, Dr. Artino co-founded and served as Deputy Director of the Center for Health Professions Education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences while on active duty in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 2020 as a Captain in the Medical Service Corps after more than 23 years of leadership and service.

Dr. Ellen Costello is a physical therapist and medical educator who has been a member of the GW faculty since 2004. Dr. Costello earned a BS in Physical Therapy at Ithaca College, a Master’s Degree in Anatomy at New York Medical College, and PhD at NYU in clinical research. Dr. Costello has served in a variety of academic leadership positions at various of academic institutions, including Program Director, Director of Admissions, and  Chair of the Department of Health Human Function and Rehabilitation Sciences. Her primary teaching responsibilities have included gross anatomy,  management of individuals with cardiovascular and pulmonary dysfunction and reserach. She has practiced clinically in a variety of settings with a special interest in acute care.  Dr. Costello’s research interests range from outcomes in medical education to physical activity in the older population and acute care rehabilitation. She has published and presented her research in both peer-reviewed journals and at national and international research forums. She has received a number of teaching excellence and research awards at GW and other institutions.

She has served as an on-site reviewer for CAPTE, the accrediting body of the APTA.

Dr. Matt Garber is the Director of Clinical Education for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Prior to coming to GW, Dr. Garber served for 30 years as an Army physical therapist, culminating as the Director of Rehabilitation Services for the Army Medical Department and the Physical Therapy Consultant to the Army Surgeon General. He has held clinical privileges in multiple military hospitals and has extensive experience in direct access settings and currently provides patient care at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. Dr. Garber earned his Master of
Physical Therapy degree through the US Army-Baylor physical therapy program and a Doctor of Science degree from Baylor
University. He also completed an orthopaedic manual physical therapy residency at Brooke Army Medical Center as well as a
master’s degree in strategic leadership and national security strategy.

Dr. Garber serves as the course director for Diagnostic Imaging and Clinical Conference V as well as the three
full-time clinical education experiences, and he also teaches in the Foundations of Examinations course. His professional service includes serving as an on-site reviewer for CAPTE, the accrediting body of the APTA, as well as service within APTA Academies of Education and Orthopedics. He is also an APTA Level 1 Credentialed Clinical Trainer. Dr. Garber previously chaired the National Physical Therapy Examination Development Committee with the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy and served as an Academic Director-at-Large for the National Consortium
of Clinical Educators. He is a board certified specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy and a Fellow in the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Assistant Professor in Health, Human Function, and Rehabilitation Sciences 

Roger Ideishi is the Program Director of Occupational Therapy and a Professor of Health, Human Function, and Rehabilitation Sciences at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He has a Juris Doctor in Law from Temple University and Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from University of Washington. His clinical experience spans children through adults primarily in neurological rehabilitation and community engagement for people with developmental disabilities. He has been a Visiting Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University's Occupational Therapy Department in Japan since 2016. He is a faculty facilitator for the Children's National Hospital Leadership in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) training program. 

I am Professor with tenure in the Departments of Clinical Research and Leadership and Health, Human Function and Rehabilitation. I am Associate Dean for Research in Health Sciences in the School of Medicine in Health Sciences. I am Program Director for a HRSA T32 postdoctoral fellowship program in primary care and Co-Director of the PhD in Translational Health Sciences. 

I established the Advanced Metrics Lab (AMLab) in 2016 to support the idea that better outcomes measurement can improve healthcare and inform healthcare policy. Through AMLab, I have mentored, published, and/or presented with 6 K01 and early career trainees, 13 postdoctoral fellows, 18 doctoral students, and 10 medical/graduate/undergraduate students.

Tim McCaffrey, Ph.D. received his B.A. from St. Mary's University, and his Masters and Doctorate from Purdue University.  He received Post-Doctoral training at Cornell University Medical College in New York City, where he stayed as an Assistant and then Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine. He founded the Genomics Core Facility at Weill/Cornell Medical School, which has since grown into affiliations with the New York Genome Center.

In 2001, he relocated his laboratory to The George Washington University Medical Center where he founded the Genomics Core Facility.  In 2004, he was named Director of the Catherine Birch McCormick Genomics Center at GWU and Vice-Chairman for Research and Administration in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  For 10 years, Dr. McCaffrey held a prestigious NIH-MERIT Award given to a select group of scientists in the top 1% of NIH-funded researchers.

He has recently formed a clinical and translational Division of Genomic Medicine within the Department of Medicine to capitalize on the rapidly expanding successes in genomically-guided diagnosis and prognosis.  Dr. McCaffrey's research is focused on genetic regulation during the development of atherosclerotic lesions.  He is working to exploit our understanding of these mechanisms for the development of new drug targets to treat cardiovascular disease, as well as for creating new diagnostic tests for predicting people who are at risk of developing heart disease.

Dr. McCaffrey works closely with The St. Laurent Institute, which supports cutting-edge research in areas such as neurodegenerative disease, ADHD, autism, and cardiovascular disease.  He is an advisor to several start-up and established companies in the genomic and personalized medicine areas, such as SeqLL, formerly Helicos Technologies, and True Bearing Diagnostics, a start-up RNA diagnostics company.

Dr. Sheila Moyle earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Rider University (1994), a B.A. in Health and Exercise Science from Rowan University (2007), and a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (2012). She completed her Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree at Chatham University in 2017, where her capstone project examined student performance on fieldwork using multisource feedback.

Dr. Moyle has eleven years of experience in academia and joined the George Washington University Occupational Therapy Program in April 2023 as the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator. She also served as Interim Academic Fieldwork Coordinator from August 2023 through February 2024. Prior to her role at GW, she worked for nine years as an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Moyle practiced full time with older adults in skilled nursing and long-term care settings.

Her primary research interests include student development during fieldwork and health and wellness. She is particularly passionate about building meaningful community partnerships, exploring innovative interprofessional collaborations, and supporting fieldwork educators and students in preparation for experiential learning opportunities. Dr. Moyle has presented her research on multisource feedback and student performance on fieldwork at the local, state, and national levels.

Dr. Lisa Paganotti is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Human Function, and Rehabilitation Science. She is the Associate Director for  the Doctor of Health Sciences program. She earned a B.S. in Health Education, a M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Health Professions Education and a PhD in Translational Health Sciences.

Dr. Paganotti is an experienced emergency medicine physician assistant, medical educator, and researcher. Dr. Paganotti brings her passion for experiential learning to the academic environment. Her work has focused on helping healthcare workers apply new knowledge or implement new guidelines or policies into patient care. Her research interests include the use of simulation-based education to improve healthcare outcomes and enhancing career development opportunities for healthcare simulation technology specialists. Dr. Paganotti is an active member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and serves as an accreditation site reviewer and educator for their accreditation program. She enjoys staying active by snowboarding, hiking, running, swimming or biking with her family.

Dr. Matthew Tuck completed his undergraduate and graduate medical education as well as chief residency at the George Washington University (GWU), where he was inducted to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. There, he also earned a Masters in Education and Human Development. He currently holds an academic appointment as Professor of Medicine at GWU. He serves as the Site Director for the internal medicine residency programs at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
