TEACHING INTERESTS
Prof. Dano's teaching experience spans his military, industry and academic career. As a Chief Systems Architect/Engineer at BAE Systems, he created the Systems Engineering Handbook (given to every new systems engineer as a reference) and taught numerous Systems Engineering and Domain courses including Understanding DoDAF 2.0, Requirements Engineering, ConOps Development, Trade Study Primer, Design Structure Matrix (DSM) Primer, System Architecture Synthesis, Modular Open System Approach (MOSA), and the Architecture Review Board Assessor Training.
As a Professor of Practice at GW, Dr. Dano teaches 3 courses each semester including EMSE-2801 Fundamentals of Systems Engineering (Sophomore), EMSE-3855/6877 Model Based Engineering (Junior/Masters), EMSE-4190/4191 & EMSE-6099 Capstone Project (Seniors and Masters) and EMSE-6801 SE Process/Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) (Masters). The EMSE-3855/6877 course is a multi-domain Model Based Engineering (MBE) course where students will model, architect, and design a raspberry pi-based sensor system, which will host selected machine learning algorithm. The course was developed over the Spring 2025 semester and will be offered in Spring 2026. Students in this class will also utilize AI4SE tools to ensure model completeness, to perform decision analysis and to autogenerate SE artifacts over the product lifecycle.
